Editor's Note: Evacuation puts ‘Post’ staff in tight quarters

Today’s paper was made in my kitchen.

It’s an OK kitchen.

But first things first: For a recap of what happened Wednesday in terms of the blue-hooded gunman who caused Ohio University to close its Athens campus, visit thepost.ohiou.edu or see today’s front page.

When the campus closed around noon, students were asked to go home, and we were forced to evacuate our third-floor offices in Baker. We migrated to my living room on Smith Street, where we tweeted and updated stories about what would later be called (by you all on Twitter) #FugitiveFest.

Now, as a journalist, I’m not really allowed to have opinions about what we cover. So I’ll let you come to your own conclusions about the closings, how it all stemmed from a $5 robbery, and how OU made the front page of TotalFratMove.com riding the coattails of hashtags such as #GundayFunday and #BlueHoodieShuffle.

I’ll paraphrase Bill Murray’s character from Ghostbusters to portray my take on yesterday: Cats were getting along with dogs — it was mass hysteria.

But to be honest, I’m still making up my mind about all of it.

If you want opinions on the matter, take the rest of this page in, visit our site for online content and check out the collection of tweets we Storified last night.

And, as always, feel free to write us at posteditorial@ohiou.edu and tell us what you think.

It is our understanding that this is the first time the Athens campus has been closed for non-weather related reasons in about 40 years.

Hopefully, answers to why this sort of reaction didn’t occur last winter when a gunman was spotted near Shafer Street will come out during the next few days — as well as answers to why today’s closings came at noon instead of 10 a.m. when the first emergency text was sent.

Until then, a humongous thanks to the staff of The Post for spending the day in my OK kitchen to bring you today’s paper.

Thanks to my mom for calling and being worried. Thanks to my sister Katie for ordering us pizza. Thanks to my roommates Kari, Chris and Danny for putting up with all of it.

And, as always, thank you if you’re reading this. Thanks for following our coverage, and I hope you stay with us for the rest of the semester. I hope there’s at least one of you out there, because that’s why we do what we do.
