Former Scripps director to take over as head of WOUB
After a year as the station’s interim director, former E. W. Scripps School of Journalism director Thomas Hodson has been named WOUB Center for Public Media’s director and general manger.
Hodson took over as interim director after Carolyn Lewis announced her retirement in January 2011. Hodson signed onto a five-year term, which is effective immediately and is set to end in June 2016.
“As a leader for WOUB, Tom brings the best of both worlds: he is a skilled media professional and an acclaimed teacher,” said Scott Titsworth, interim dean of the Scripps College of Communication, in a university news release. “As such, he is committed to providing outstanding public service while also enhancing the role of WOUB as a learning laboratory for Ohio University students.”
Hodson earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Ohio University in 1970. He later returned to the community to serve on the Athens County Municipal Court and Common Pleas Court before joining the Scripps faculty full time in 2003.
Hodson has also served as a member of the OU Board of Trustees and a special assistant to former OU President Robert Glidden.
“I am thankful for Tom’s leadership and am excited to work with him,” Titsworth said in the release.
