Graduate Student Senate to fund speaker
The Student Personnel Association is bringing Tracy David to Ohio University on Oct. 24 to speak to students about rape culture.
His topic, “Mindful Masculinities: Listening to and Constructing Your Own Voice,” about rape culture on campus, also focuses on Greek Life and how there needs to be a change in mindset in terms of sexual assaults.
The association attended the Graduate Student Senate meeting Monday to ask for support.
The organization requested GSS help promote the event, for GSS members attend and $150 in funding.
GSS President Joel Newby said he is happy to support.
“As graduate students, we have so much life experience that undergraduate students don’t. We decided to become leaders and now we need to start questioning society and what’s going on,” Newby said. “I want to throw my support behind anything like this.”
“This event addresses many of the issues that have been floating around campus. We want to throw our voices in, we want to be a part of the conversation,” said Vice President of Administration and Finance Ed Gaither.
The Personnel Association’s goal for the event is to educate students, both graduate and undergraduate.
David will be speaking in the Friends of the Libraries, Alden Library Room 319.
