High School football: Nelsonville-York tops list of Athens-area teams heading into week nine

Nelsonville-York is ranked ninth in the Associated Press Division V standings.

Nelsonville-York has cruised its way to an 8-0 record heading into week nine.

The Buckeyes sit at ninth in the Associated Press Division V ranking, retaining their spot from last week with 92 total points. Nelsonville-York is far ahead of 10th-ranked West Liberty-Salem, which has 35 ranking points, and is considerably behind Coldwater, the 8th-ranked team which has 117 points. Notably, the Buckeyes garnished a first place vote this week.

Nelsonville-York has its mind set on this week's opponent, Alexander, which has taken a major hit the past two weeks, falling to Wellston and Athens.

The Spartans are currently seeded as the 17th-best team in the 19th region of Division V.

Athens, which remains unbeaten as well, is ranked fifth in the Division III's 12th region. The Bulldogs will face off with Wellston this week on the road.

Trimble, which has gone on a five-game tear after losing its opening two games, is seventh in Division VI's region 23.
