The Ridges’ history retold on hayrides
Horse-drawn wagons will be carrying students, faculty and alumni through the history of The Ridges this weekend.
Historical hayrides are being offered Friday and Saturday at The Ridges beginning every 15 minutes from 5:30 p.m.-8:15 p.m. for $5.
“The idea is to talk about the overall history of the Athens asylum, the time period (from) 1874 to about 1982,” said Doug McCabe, curator of manuscript collections in the Mahn Center in Alden Library.
McCabe and Greg Polzer, board president of the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Athens, will lead wagon tours while Katherine Ziff, author of Asylum on the Hill, will lead walking tours.
