The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, which was expected to spend about $100,000 more than it was allocated, is on track to operate within its budget this year, an Ohio University budget planner said.
The department has stuck more strictly to its budget during the past year, said Rebecca Vazquez-Skillings, OU's assistant vice president for Budget Planning and Analysis.
The department has a $19.7 million budget this year that it planned to overspend by $947,000.
Vazquez-Skillings said the amount Athletics overspends will be less than expected.
"They ended up being under budget. So they still had a deficit, but the deficit ended up being under what we expected," she said. "I'm expecting that they'll be able to remain accountable to the budget that we give them this year."
